How can I get rid of my depression without prescription medicine?
Im in 8th grade and I'm depressed. I'm not suicidal, but I don't feel like anything is worth while anymore. I feel like everything is pointless, and like theres some kind of gloomy film over everything. This started in the winter of 2011, so I thought maybe it was just a seasonal thing, because it got cold all of the sudden. But now its summer of 2012 and I still feel this way, and it hasn't stopped, its actually getting worse. I'm starting to really not care about my school work, but I'm forcing myself to do it because I know its right.
I really do not want to take depression medicine because my depression is mild and i heard theres a lot of bad side effects. My mom takes depression medicine and she gained like 60 pounds. I also know some guy who lost the the ability of his penis or something like that. (I didn't hear the whole story because it was awkward.)
Is there anything I can do to naturally take away this depression? Not some extremely complicated concoction with like exotic herbs or something, but like adding something to my diet or some type of exercise. Anything helps, thanks. :)

first of all you need to join an activity that you enjoy and to keep you exercising because exersising releases endorphins which make you happy. If you cannot join a sport, than at least go jogging or something daily.
Second you need to eat healthily because good food also can help you get rid of depression.
you also need to physically talk to someone you can trust about your feelings and never keep it to yourself.
you are WAY too young to be depressed. this is the best time of your life, stress FREE!

Well, there's two things I'd reccomend. You can get it treated through TMS, I had it, but I had bad depression. It is a technique, not a medication. They use magnetic waves to stimulate a specific area in your brain to help. It does not "cure" depression, nothing does, but I don't even notice it anymore :) Only thing is its costly, but some insurances cover it. You could try therapy as well, but that doesn't work for everyone. If you find these ideas aren't helpful, you should discuss this with a doctor, just make sure you voice that you don't want to take medication. Plus, not all antidepressants have terrible side effects, some have very mild ones. And don't feel like just because your depression is mild, it still hurts, and you should do something to make yourself feel better! :)
