How did Maebara Keiichi appear in two places?

In the anime: Higurashi no naku koro ni, Keiichi kills a man, and then when asked about what he was doing in the night of the festival his friends offer an alibi that states that he was with them.

So could anyone please explain how he could kill that man and be in the festival at the same time?
