Japanese Beetles on my Day Lillies!?

My husband and I just planted 5 yellow day lillies out front today and 3 gorgeous pink/red/white lillies in the back. I have noticed several japanese beetles laying on the flowers (at least one beetle on each plant), especially on the day lillies. Will they damage the flowers and can anyone tell me a safe way to get rid of them? Thanks!

If Japanese beetles (JB) are visiting your plants then they will indeed do damage to them.

A weekly spray of Sevin® pesticide will provide excellent control.

Do not use traps b/c all they do is attract JBs from other yards in the neighborhood.

Another way to control JBs is to hold a shallow Tupper-bucket filled partially with plain ol'water below the stalk and tap the plant toward the bucket. The JB's response will be to drop straight into the watery grave. Patrol the garden two or three times a day.

    JBs are a short-term nuisance.

A few weeks from now...they'lll be gone.
