Your dog could have been bit, stung or have a problem with his teeth if he is 9 years old and has swelling in that area of his face. He could also be having an allergic reaction to something. The one and only way you can help your dog is to take him to the vet and have it looked at. If he is swelling you need to find out why and have diagnosed and treated properly by a vet, before the problem becomes much worse and even more expensive to try and fix. Ask the vet it he or she will work out a payment plan with you, that way you can go ahead and take him in, have him checked, diagnosed and treated and worry about paying the vet for it later. Vets will work with you if your dog has a medical problem and you can't pay them right away. Vets can be expensive, but when you own a dog you have to be financially prepared for Emergencies like this and you have to be able to provide veterinary care for your dog.

What about a tooth absess?
I would try this for today...crushed ice -ice pack with thin towel inbetween skin and ice. Ten minutes on, ten min off...for an hour, every other hour. If it gets worse, get the money together and see vet. Part of responsible ownership (not to mention the best friend thing we have going with our dogs...) is vet care. To withhold for ANY reason is deemed NEGLECT and considered cruel by legal standards as well as humane standards.

Could be a bug bite or a tooth problem, if it stays swelled up for more then a few hours, start looking for the money to get him in for a check up.

dogs do not stay very long with bloat if not taken on the instant to the vet, so i'm specific that isn't her situation. Any possibility she must be pregnant? Is she spayed? If not, while replaced into her final warmth?
