How to prepare wall ready for tiling?
I have plastered walls in my bathroom painted with matt emulsion.
I've been told it should come off before tiling as to get a good bond.
I've tried removing paint with a 6" scraper with little luck, then tried sanding with 40grit sand paper on sander, its going very slowly.
Any pro's out there with any tips & ideas would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
Bazza, I've been told your bond is only as good as the bond the paint has, its new plaster where in places with a stanley blade the paint peels away easy,it was done before we moved in,in past I've painted on plaster I've been told to miss coat 1st to help emulsion bond,I have no idea if this has been done so am nervous to tile all walls if the bond is going to be poor!

Whoever told you to remove the emulsion was an idiot. All it needed was a wash down with detergent (sugar soap) to remove grease, rinse well and tile away.

the first answer was correct, you just need a firm dry surface, if worried about adhesion you could scratch diagonal lines into the paint with a craft knife.
