What type of welder would I need to fix an area of my strut housing?

I have to replace a portion of my strut housing due to rust and would like to know what brand and size is best and cheap to buy or even rent. I am getting the piece I need at a salvage yard to lower my costs. I also would like to know what type of saw would I use to go and cut the part I need? Thanks!

It depends on the metal. If its aluminum then you would a tig welder, if it is a clean metal like steel, not galvanized then you can use a mig. The saw would be a hacksaw probably.

Are you qualified to do welding on a vehicle?? If you are, you need to use stick. MIG does'nt penetrate enough and the part will fatigue and fall out. A sawzall (reciprocating saw) will cut off whatever you need.

I suggest NOT doing this yourself.
