What makes breakfast the most important meal of the day?

So health experts are always talking about how you shouldn't start the day without some oatmeal or cereal to eat first. But I'm wondering why. Doctors and dietitians are always saying how people who don't eat breakfast are more prone to being overweight than people who do not eat breakfast. How is that so. I have a very hectic life so starting my day with a nice breakfast is simply not an option. For instance does eating breakfast have any important effects on your body that an early lunch doesn't what makes eating in the morning so much more important than any other part of the day?

Thank you for taking the time to read my question !! xoxox

No meal is any more important than any other. We should all be eating 4-6 small meals per day with healthy snacks between. It makes no sense to single out one meal and consider it more important than the rest when nutrition must be considered as a whole...the flow of nutrients throughout the body all day every day.

The myth that breakfast is singularly important probably comes form the fact that people used to tend to skip breakfast and opt for coffee and donuts instead. So, health agencies, in their quest to do right by the public, put extra emphasis on breakfast. That eventually turned into breakfast being considered super important.

I disagree about what doctors and dietitians supposedly claim. However, there is a distinct dietary advantage to feeding yourself when you're hungry and stopping as soon as you are no longer hungry. Keeping a smooth but minimal flow of food and nutrients through your GI tract will ensure you have optimal digestive satisfaction and appetite suppression with a minimal amount of food. So, all else equal, eating several small meals per day will help keep fat away. Eating haphazardly can result in gorging or over eating.

    Good luck and good health!!

For one, it gives your body energy and calories to burn. It promotes brain activity. People who don't eat breakfast are generally obese because they do not have any calories to burn at the beginning of the day, and a lot of time results in binging at the end of the day. Basically breakfast is important because your body needs calories to burn between breakfast and your next meal. I suggest getting cereal bars or granola bars to start your day if you don't have time. Very quick and easy.
