Good beginner bird? ?
I have never owned a bird before, but I've care for a cockatoo. I don't want anything large like that, though. I'm looking for a small parrot species that has a big personality and isn't too loud( like macaw loud). Thanks everyone! Care details about the bird would be awesome too!!

Green cheek conures- these are small birds with huge personalities. They're feisty and hyper. They are known to be a bit nippy. I love green cheeks, the one I had was super cuddly, but there's no guarantee that all green cheeks will be. Mine was very quiet.
cockatiels- they're much calmer than green cheeks. My male cockatiel is a bit nippy at times and he likes to play, but he's not hyper. He loves to have his head rubbed. My female cockatiel is very calm, she likes to just hang out with people but isn't big on being pet. She never bites and is a super sweet bird. Their calls are shrill, but incredibly loud.
budgies- feisty little birds, they can be quite friendly, but most you get from a pet store won't be that interested in people
lineolated parakeets- I actually don't know that much about them, but people say they're great birds.
No matter which species you choose, remember each bird is an individual and their personalities vary greatly even in a species. But remember to do a lot of research on caring for your bird before you get him or her.

If you are serious for a bird, make sure you're ready to give it affection and proper care. I'd say a parakeet or a lovebird. Don't get one from petsmart or petco or any other pet store for that matter. Unless you're just planning to keep it in a cage forever which I do not recommend. Get one from a breeder or on craiglist from someone who has handfed that bird since it was a baby. That way it will be use to petting and handholding.

Cockatiel! They are more personal than budgies and have a little more personality in my opinion but are easy to care for. They also chirp so you get the nice sounds but they don't have big lungs. I have a cockatoo, eeek I know! Cockatiels have a special place in my heart because they are known for how friendly they are. Handfed babies are the best, believe me, a little more expensive but find a devoted breeder.
