Anyone remember the series with Dwayne Hickman as "Dobie Gillis" and Bob Denver as Maynard G. Grebes?

It plays here every morning on ME-TV at 5:30 AM. I watch it because some of it, with Bob Denver and Dwayne Hickman, was pretty funny, that is, if I'm awake at that hour. Dobie went from brown hair to bleached blonde, which I hated. And I still think it's funny that after all this time, I can still sing along with the theme song: Is she blonde, is she tall, is she dark, is she small, is she any kind of dreamboat at all? No matter, he's hers and hers alone, cause Dobie has to have a girl to call his own. And Dobie thought he loved Thalia (Tuesday Weld) but Zelda was always waiting in the wings, and knew better. LOL.

They used to say things were really "squaresville". Maynard was a Beatnik.

(Bob Denver 'Gilligan') played the role of Maynard G.Krebs, the Hippie/beatnic friend of Dobie Gillis (Dwayne Hickman) on the "The Many Loves of Dobie Gillis" TV show, which was an American sitcom that aired on CBS from 1959 to 1963. Warren Beatty ('Bugsy', 'Ishtar') was a regular on the first few episodes, playing rich kid Milton Armitage. Tuesday Weld (in the first season,only) played Thalia Menninger, the golddigging girl that Dobie couldn't get. Sheila James (previously seen on 'Broadside'), played Zelda Gilroy, the girl who could only get Dobie's attention by wrinkling her nose at him.

You forgot the most "important" character--the love of my early life and Dwayne Hickman's (Dobie): Thalia Meninger, played by the lovely Tuesday Weld. You also forgot to mention that memorable performances by Warren Beatty in several episodes and a brief appearance by Ron Howard.

Yes! It was Maynard G. Krebbs wasn't it? Everyone told me I looked exactly like Tuesday Weld but with dark hair. Looking back at some pics I do see a resemblance.

Great show. And Sheila Kuehl, who played Zelda, went on to have a very distinguished career in the California State Legilsature.

And the best friend was played by the famous movie actor Warren Beatty. Remember it? I cant remember my phone number but I remember Maynard Krebs.

Sure do. Parents owned and ran a Mom and Pop store, his girl friend Zelda was it. And then he always chased the cute blonde. Fun show. Doooooobie. And he would sit by a statue of the thinker to talk out his life.
