Would I need to cycle my fish tank if I add water conditioner?

Firstly, sorry for all of these questions but I am new to fish-keeping a Betta and want to make sure it has a good life.

Would I need to cycle my fish tank (it's not brand new so it has been used before) if I condition the water? Or would I need to do both?

You would still need to cycle it, but using a conditioner and putting beneficial bacteria will speed the process up a bit :) Also doing weekly water changes is going to be needed.

If you have any other questions email me :)

In a larger or medium size tank 30 gallon with filtration you'll need to cycle it to reduce the work on your part but for a betta....just use water conditioner...here in the tropics..I grab a bucket, pour some tap water a capful of conditoner and throw the betta in he will thrive like crazy...but of course I feed him and clean the bucket...thats my answer.

    Just use conditioner.

Cycling is for a larger tank that produce more waste.

No. You don't. Betta fish are meant to live in shallow puddles/ponds so basically all you have to do is get him a small vase or tank. I've had plenty if Betta fish. I've had one for 3 years. To keep them alive, you need to clean out the tank one every two weeks and feed them everyday. I suggest getting the food that promotes their colors. Also when you clean the tank, you need clean water. Tap water is good but you need to let it sit overnight before you use it. You have water conditioner correct? You just need to pour the water out of the tank, scrub it clean, rinse it, fill it with water again, put 4-5 squirts of conditioner, take a spoon and stir it around and your good to go! I dont recommend getting a filter because one time my Betta got sucked up to it and was stuck. I rescued him though. He could have died. You'll do fine without one. I always have. Hope I helped! (:
