Display driver stopped responding?

While playing Aliens vs Predators, the game just blacks out at random instances and crashes my graphics card driver. I think the error that pops up at the bottom right of the desktop, saying that the "display driver stopped responding", has something to do with this. This happened only to this game. My graphics card is Zotac AMP! 550 ti. Is there any fix for this?

Update:

Apparently turning off the ambient occlusion fixes this problem a bit, but this would occur again if I use my flares. Turning on the xp compatibility did not help at all. Updating my gpu drivers is not an option at all, the new driver from nvidia (301.42) is buggy and lags all my games.

Make sure you have a compatible hardware and its driver. Then download the latest version of the driver. Also check the game's minimum requirements.

change the compatibility settings to windows xp and run it as administrator to do that

right click the aliens vs predators then click properties --> click compatiblity then check run this program in compatibility mode or windows xp then apply and click ok and then run the game ..
