Dogs. Cats are more independent, while dogs are more loyal and compassionate. Dogs are generally smarter too, it's amazing that they can be trained as sniffer dogs to detect drugs, they can lead the blind and even detect when someone is about to have a fit. Amazing creatures! I'm not saying I dislike cats, but from a personal perspective I think dogs make better pets.

Cats make better targets with the garden hose. Dogs seem to enjoy it.
