Checked Bag- Do I have to claim and recheck for each segment?

I am traveling to China with my daughter and niece (both teenagers). We are only taking carry on bags and ONE checked bag (among all of us, not each).

Our first segment is a Delta subsidiary (Pinnacle), then our second segment is a Delta flight and finally a Korean Air flight. Will that checked bag make it from our departure location to our destination or do I have to claim it and re-check it at each stop?

Checked luggage almost ALWAYS gets checked through to the final destination. Certainly the Delta segments will deal with the transfer. When you get to your first airport in the foreign destination, you will pass though immigration, then customs. At customs, you pick up your bag in the customs hall, get cleared, then, if you are continuing onwards, there is a location in customs for ongoing baggage to be placed.

However - ASK when you check in about the transfer between the Delta segment and the Korean Air segment.

Can you imagine the total chaos if all connecting passengers had to go to baggage claim, then go back to the check in desks to recheck it to the next destination? Then, they would all have to clear security again. It would require everyone to have at least 2 hours between flights. That <<does not>> happen, and has not ever been the case since I started occasionally flying in the 60s.
