  • Issues with multiple iPhones using one iTunes/iCloud account...?

I have been using an iPhone 5 since February. Within the last two weeks, two other lines on our family account have started using iPhones (the 5c). All of them are using the same iTunes/iCloud account.

There are a couple of small issues that I can not figure out on my own and I was hoping someone could help me.

First, when I download music, the other two phones are getting notifications from the iTunes store about turning on Automatic Downloads. We do not want/need automatic downloads and I would like to turn these notifications off. How do I do that?

Second, when I visit the App Store or iTunes Store on my phone, I have to enter my iTunes password to make a purchase or download something (even if it is free). The other two phones on my account do not. How do I change that?

I think that is all for now, but I appreciate your help! Thank you!

  • Taxes and my minor child (asking for future reference).?

I am the mother of four, the oldest turns 15 this year. She has done a little work here and there but never earned enough to need to file a return of her own, and of course she remains our dependent.

What I am wondering about is this year (and the possibility of how it would affect our 2013 returns when we file next year). If she, at 15, makes more than 3700 we would not be able to claim her as a dependent per the current rules?

I just want to make sure I completely understand. This is what I understand from multiple questions/answers I have seen asked and answered here. If I am understanding correctly, it is completely absurd as that money is HER money and does not go toward her care and support at all. Her money is used for her horse, mainly, and other extras not her housing, utilities, medical expenses, clothing, food, education, etc.

  • What has changed since you were in school (i.e. number of planets, number of continents, cursive, etc.)?

This is in the grade schooler category but it applies to all grades- what do your children learn that is different than what you learned?

Primarily, the number of planets and continents have changed since I was in school. Pluto is no longer a planet, Europe and Asia used to be considered two different continents but are now one.

Did you learn to write in cursive in school? Are your children learning cursive in school (I see that more schools are forgoing that)?

    What else?

  • Where would I start to trace geneology?

I want to trace both my and my husband's geneology. I am sure this is common, but unfortunately it is complex (adoptions, deaths and remarriages, half siblings, etc.).

Where can I start? At least in the beginning I would prefer to not have to pay- maybe when I get further into it.

    Thank you.

  • Barely an hour between flights?

I have never flown before, and in four days I am traveling to the other side of the globe with my daughter and niece (both teenagers). We are flying from our local airport to another, which is a short domestic flight, and then flying on to another country (where we will catch another flight to another country).

There is barely an hour between the first flight and the second- is that sufficient time? Since it is an international flight, do we have to check-in and go through security, etc. all over again?

I would not have chosen such a short timeframe between flights, but I booked the flights over the telephone and that is what was available. We have 3 hours between our second and third flights, and then coming home all of our layovers are extremely long (13 and 17 hours) so that one is the only one I am worried about.

  • Checked Bag- Do I have to claim and recheck for each segment?

I am traveling to China with my daughter and niece (both teenagers). We are only taking carry on bags and ONE checked bag (among all of us, not each).

Our first segment is a Delta subsidiary (Pinnacle), then our second segment is a Delta flight and finally a Korean Air flight. Will that checked bag make it from our departure location to our destination or do I have to claim it and re-check it at each stop?

  • A Question About Flight Check-In?

I am flying to the other side of the globe in four days, and it is my first time flying. I have a question about check-in.

First, exactly what is it? A "Hey, I am here and am going to take this flight"?

Second, I know I will have to go to the desk anyhow because we are checking one bag, though the rest will be carryon. Thus, is it necessary and/or is there any benefit to checking in online ahead of time, or should I just do it when I arrive?

Do I have to checkin for every segment of my trip (we will take three planes to get to our destination and then three planes to get home), or do I just check in for the first segment? Each way?

  • How does a bilingual Chinese keyboard work?

I know little Chinese, but I want to learn and I found a Chinese-English bilingual keyboard that I am considering purchasing. How does it work?

I have Windows 7. Could I use it to type in Chinese without turning everything on my computer into Chinese?

Do any of you have these specific pieces of luggage- do they meet the carryon and personal item restrictions?

  • Any hints for booking tickets? Do all rows have windows? Does United have wifi on all international flights?

I am going on my first flight this summer, and it will be a long one. I am wondering if there are any hints for booking tickets (what days/times are least expensive, for instance)?

Do all rows have windows? Are there any seats (in economy) that are "better" than others (i.e. more legroom, etc.)?

Does United have wifi on all international flights? Can you take your own snacks (non liquid) on a long flight?

  • Can you verify that this luggage will work as carryon and personal item?

My teenage daughter and I will be flying from the US to China this summer, on Continental (or I guess United, as they are merging). We want to avoid checking luggage, if possible.

I want to use a 21" spinner from Samsonite- the dimensions are 21X15X8.25 (each of us will carry one of these, hopefully) for our carryon.

I want to use a "Wheeled Tote" from Samsonite- the dimensions are 13X17X7 (each of us will carry one of these, hopefully) for our personal item.

The labels on the spinner bills itself as regulation size carry on but has a disclaimer that it may not conform to some airlines carry-on standards.

The labels on the wheeled tote bills itself as designed to fit under most airline seats but has a disclaimer that it may not conform to some airlines carry-on standards.

    Any input/feedback/advice?

Thank you very much for your time!

  • WITHIN 6 weeks- did you get yours?

I was concerned because for the longest time I had a status of "BY the 31st" which then updated to a deposit "ON the 30th" but a day later that changed to "WITHIN 6 weeks".

Knowing that my bank posts deposits in the early morning hours, I checked and as of 3 a.m. EST my refund has posted to my account.

  • BY January 31st then ON January 30 now WITHIN 6 weeks?

I know a lot of us had BY the 31st for a long period of time. On Thursday mine updated to say ON January 30 and then on Friday it updated again to WITHIN 6 weeks and is still saying that now.

Anyone else still getting this message? I know that others experienced these same changes, but I see a lot saying they are showing ON January 30 (and some seem to have even received their refund already, though I am not anticipating it before Monday- just wondering why the change).

  • Confused- 1098-T question?

I filed our return as soon as I had all of the documentation we needed, but now something I was not expecting has arrived and I must admit I have non idea if or how this is going to effect our taxes or how to proceed. I am awaiting a call from someone in our church who is a tax preparer, but wanted to pose this question here in the meantime. (And, for the record, I used H&R Block At Home to prepare our return).

This 1098-T is from the local community college. My classes began on January 9 and this is my first semester (in 2012, which is why I was not anticipating anything education related until next year when I prepare a 2012 return). Every box on this form is empty except Box 2 (amounts billed for qualified tuition and related expenses) which is 1800 (the amount of tuition, it does not include the amount of the books). Box 7 is checked to indicate that the amount in box 2 is for academic period beginning January-March 2012.

NOW, my tuition and books were covered by a Pell Grant which is not mentioned on this form anywhere.

I am just totally confused at this point and if you understand this situation and can offer advice I would appreciate it.

  • Chinese Sign Language?

I speak English and am learning Mandarin.

I also know a little American Sign Language and I was curious about Chinese Sign Language- what is the name for it (pin yin form)?

I think it would be interesting to compare the similarities and differences between the two.

Any other information you could provide would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

If you understand one, is the other completely different or would understanding one give you some understanding of the other?
