Is my understanding of the Higgs Boson correct?

I would just like to know if the way I'm thinking the Higgs Boson Particle and Higgs Boson field is correct.

I believe that the Higgs Boson Particle interacts with Protons and Neutrons through what is called the Higgs Mechanism. Basically particles naturally have what scientists refer to as SU2 (SU stands for special unit and the number refers to how many matrices are involved). Basically, this symmetry defines the rules of what something is before it is acted upon. So in this case, it is believed that all protons neutrons, etc naturally do not have mass. The Higgs Mechanism is basically an invisible field that exists everywhere. When Protons and Neutrons interact with it, it breaks the symmetry and allows them to have mass.
