Whatto do about abandoned dogs?
Where I live, in the country, people seem to dump their dogs there, they just come along in their cars, put the dogs out and drive off. We live in the country in Ireland and my family and I just can't watch them suffer so we usually end up taking them in and looking after them even though we already have nine dogs of our own. All of our own dogs have their own individual dog pens outside so none of our animals live in the house because that would be really smelly!! We have ended up buying five spare dog pens for the strays and usually one or two dogs are abandoned per month. We have to buy loads of food for them and then we rehome them. We're getting sick of people dumping their animals and we tried to get one man's license plate but he had it covered! How can we deal with this or should we just keep looking after the animals, and because I have a 5 year old sister, she could get hurt if one of the dogs were aggressive and attacked her.
Seven weeks ago, a springer was left, and a few weeks later we found out she was pregnant. She's had her puppies and we have a waiting list of people looking to buy them, there is 11 people looking to buy them but there is only 4 pups. We offered them other dogs and pups but they don't want them.
So far this year this is what we've taken in:
-male labrador cross
-female labrador
-two female hounds, abandoned together
-female terrier cross
-male jack russel
All of these animals, we have found homes for but we still have
-four terrier puppies, abandoned in a box together
-female spaniel cross
-male greyhound
How can we stop people abandoning more dogs or do about the dogs? We won't give them to shelters a there are already enough dogs in the shelters. There are no dog shelters or dog charities near us either. Thanks
Bobbie L is back: my brother was talking to a neighbour about the dog when she told him that she saw another neighbour's dog, a cocker spaniel called billy mating with the dog. they don't really care for their dog and so he was loose and he was told the week, the neighbour couldn't remember the the day exactly. Now stop being so f*cking judgemental you pr!ck, you don't know our full situation.
Leele: Haha, good idea! Only problem is that I'M terrified of rottweilers! I just better hope that none are abandoned! Thanks anyway :)

Does your area have any animal abandonment laws? If they do, I would write down description of the car and driver and the vehicle license number and turn it over to the authorities. If you have a camera, get pictures of the person dumping the dog. Document date and time. This will really verify your case.
I would also contact SPCA International. They may give you some ideas.
Bless you for not letting them starve or shooting them.

You are known to be kind hearted and taken advantage of. My Grandfather had a similar problem 70 years ago in Kansas. He was sent to a retirement home finally. My dad posted signs that trespassers would be shot, but the dogs kept coming. Would a couple of big Rottweilers scare the people?

You and your family are nice people for caring for the dogs. You should ask around town and put up some flyers and see if anyone wants a dog but before doing that you need to bring the dogs to a vet and get them checked. I am sure that there is a loving family that wants a dog and would care for it

If she was an abandoned dog, how would your BROTHER know the dates that she was mated, between the 20th and 30th, from a aprevious question. Also, another question stated that she was a Springer/Cocker cross.
YES, you are a BYB.
