Why does the sound of thunder cause power outages?

Just wondering. I've noticed in my area over the past year that the sheer sound of thunder seems to cause a power outage in my neighborhood. Though these outages don't always last long (some do...) but just wondering why the noise alone causes the outage. Today, we have lots of thunder (extremely loud at times) not an ounce of rain has fallen yet but the power has managed to go off for some reason. Can anyone elaborate on what I'm not understanding. Why does the noise alone cause power outages?

    It is not the noise.

It is the sudden discharge of a large electrical potential that would overload power lines and cause breakers to trip.

In other words, the lightnings that cause the thunder also cause the power outages.

Its not teh thunder that causes outages its lighting striking the lines or tree that fall on the power lines

Thunder is caused by lightning breaking the sound barrier. The lightning is probably hitting something and is causing damage or a power surge.

Maybe the vibrations shook something loose in a transformer or it struck one and overloaded it
