i wouldn't pick Dodrio but that's your call

an Elec type is a good choice too (though i go with Fighting too)...

ya can get Eevee in the 4th gym city (caldeon?... i forgot the names of the cities)

a Hitmonchan/Hitmonlee near the Psychic gym

Zapdos also a bit late but he's worth it (and in the power plant there are also other Elec type)

there are also good pokemon in safari zone [Dratini is one of them too (rare)... and Dragonite is good]

but basically it's mainly your call... and what types/pokemon ya like

If you haven't already get eevee, you can find eevee in the Silph Cop. in that one big building and evolve it into a jolteon. You can find a thunderstone/ get one in the department store
