Should I just have my front tooth extracted?

I've had this crown for over 40yrs with a root canal-front tooth due to accident. Last 2 months, since the pocket is a 7mm, I've had two abscesses. I am syringing the perio-gard cleanser alternating with hydrogen peroxide up into the pocket to try and keep it flushed out. Dentist feels I need to have this tooth out. I don't want to lose this tooth, but, I can't keep going through the abscesses. Do you think I'll have to have it eventually out? He has already taken impressions for a flipper and later a bridge. I don't want the other teeth whittled down...eventually..pockets will form on these crowned teeth as well...A dental implant at the local dental college is $2500, instead of the $5000.

Is this tooth doomed? I'am trying to keep it clean and flushed out...

I wonder about a Maryland bridge-they don't like to do these anymore the dentist said...then, I wouldn't have to have the other teeth compromised...What do you think? please.

IN MY OPINION, THE TOOTH SHOULD COME OUT. HAVING AN ONGOING INFECTION/ABCESS IN THE MOUTH IS VERY UNHEALTHY AND COULD COMPROMISE THE TEETH AROUND IT. THERE ARE 3 OPTIONS TO REPLACING THAT TOOTH: BRIDGE, IMPLANT, OR PARTIAL. IF YOU DON’T WANT THE OTHER TEETH WHITTLED DOWN AND CAN’T AFFORD AN IMPLANT, THE PARTIAL IS THE WAY TO GO. UNFORTUNATELY, PARTIALS ARE REMOVABLE. I THINK $2500 FOR AN IMPLANT AT THE DENTAL SCHOOL SOUNDS LIKE A GOOD ROUTE FOR YOU. ALL OF THE DENTAL STUDENTS’ WORK IS CHECKED AND RECHECKED BY SUPERVISING DENTISTS SO THAT NO MISTAKES ARE MADE. THE REASON MARILYN BRIDGES AREN’T DONE ANYMORE IS BECAUSE THEY ARE TOO HARD TO KEEP CLEAN, DECAY VERY EASILY AND EVENTUALLY COME LOOSE AND FALL APART. I HOPE I HAVE PROVIDED SOME CLARITY ON THIS ISSUE. I HAVE MORE INFO ON IMPLANTS ON MY SITE, http://www.bridgerdds.com/ToothImplant.aspx

It's doomed. Get it out, live with the flipper, save your money up for the implant. You will probably also need some bone graft procedures to rebuild the lost ridge.

I would avoid the bridge if I were you just because you need to have the adjacent teeth cut down.

This is what I would do with my own tooth if it were me and money was a concern.

    Good luck.
