How much does it cost (ballpark) to replace all 4 brake pads and 1 ball bearings?

I am just trying to figure out if I am being overcharged or not by my mechanic. I have a 2008 Jeep Liberty and I had to have all 4 brake pads replaced and the ball bearings on one of the wheels. About how much would you expect to be charged for this being done?

You have to replace the whole hub assembly for the front wheel. A cheap one runs about $170 and an OEM grade one is $250. 4 sets of pads can run anywhere from $40 to $120 depending on the type and quality. Both jobs can be done in 2 hours total. The front bearing assembly is quick if everything is already disassembled for the brake job. Crooked mechanics will try to charge you the full labor rate for each job.

In the repair shop my dad manages, we charge $86/hour for labor (which isn't bad compared to most repair shops), and it is a 2.8 hour job. So we would charge $240.80 for just LABOR. Brake pads (front+back) would total $100. A full system for the wheel bearing would be $120-ish, because my shop replaces the whole thing, just in case. So you are looking at a ballpark estimate of $420-$520 for this job. Don't be afraid to haggle, too!

Personal mechanic 100 to 150 shops about 300 to 350 depending on labor charges. Personally I'd charge 100 bucks at most but every one is different. Hope this can help.

Your wheels do not have "Ball" bearings. DIY cost $135. At a garage $400
