Why does this Blu-ray cost so much?
Went on Amazon looking for the original 1985 version of Fright Night on Blu-ray and they wanted over $100.00 for it. Even for a rare or out of print Blu-ray movie, they are asking too much. Just wanted to know why it's so expensive and has anybody heard of other movies being sold for so much money?
The remake is $31.00 but the original 1985 version is$180.00. Don't confuse the two.

Yes. It's the market. Supply is low to non existent, and apparently, it's in high demand. I may be dating myself, but there was this after school cartoon that came on called, "Star Blazers" that ran for two seasons. I don't remember how many episodes were in each "Star Blazers" and "Star Blazers-The Comet Empire" but I went looking on Amazon, and found it used for $230. I did not purchase, but I might have. And that's an obscure cartoon (to most people, I thought) If it is out of print, that's not a shocking price at all.

Most "special edition" versions are simply the standard version with some extras bolted on and a bit of fancy packaging. They're still churned out by the hundred thousand. Then 12 months later a new super-duper Director's Cut special edition comes out and all the enthusiasts fret again about picture quality and what scenes are included before tipping up yet more cash to own the latest release .... Sound familiar? Come on down Mr Lucas and the Star Wars franchise. But that's not the case with this film.
A company called Twilight Time has bought the exclusive rights to release old and classic horror films on Blu-ray. They're doing fresh high-resolution scans of the original film master prints and making the releases available in very very small numbers. The production run on this film is just 3000 units - for the whole world. So it is rare.
When you consider the work that will have gone in to producing the Blu-ray release, and what it must have cost Twilight Time to secure the rights in the first place, then $180 for something that rare might actually be considered good value in some respects.
Several questions remain though... Will it increase in value? What happens to the value of the BD if you break open the packaging? Will Twilight Time ever relinquish the rights? What happens when Blu-ray is superseded?
If you absolutely must have the BD version of the original 1985 film then unless someone does some pirate copies this is your only option. I doubt I could justify it though. The original film was made on a budget and you can tell with the picture and sound quality.

It's priced high due to supply n' demand. I cannot recall a specific movie costing a lot. To me they already charge too much as it is for movies. I love the high res of Blu-ray, but it comes down to if I really want a movie on BR. I've reverted back to buying regular dvd's for mediocre movies. I only buy a BR when the situation calls for it and has sh** loads of special effects.
