When is the best time to purchase tickets with Qantas?

I'm currently in Western Australia and would really like to go to a family wedding in October in the United States. However, I also don't want to break the bank going. Should I get the tickets now or would it be better to wait a little longer? If waiting, how long do I need to wait?

Firstly find out what airlines fly from WA to the USA then check the prices online, being flexible with dates and times and see which offers the best deal. You might also want to check prices from major hubs like Sydney and add the domestic flight from Perth to Sydney to that. Budget airlines have cheaper flights but be careful. Many of them charge extra for things like baggage and meals. make sure you add the cost of those to the fare when comparing prices.

If you want to fly Qantas, and I have never had any problems with Qantas, then the further in advance you book the tickets, the more likely you are to find cheaper flights so start looking now.

If you are definitely sure you are travelling to the USA then it's better to purchase sooner than later. You may need a Visa as well so get that one month out fromn your trip. However if you have any doubts hold back. If you buy your ticket with Qantas, then be careful because you will never get a refund if you cancel (I've suffered the same fate before - I could only get a 'credit' and you can only use that credit 'once' within 12 months. You cant use part of the credit towards shorter flights - they use the whole lot up irrespective) Just a warning to be careful. Since then we only travel overseas with Singapore Airlines and have not regretted it.

Fireflyk, I go the other way, I fly from North America to Sydney, to LAX I either fly Canadian or American Airlines, then Qantas from LAX. if I was going to Sydney lets say in November I would be booking about now.

Do people fly the long hauls? For Pete's sake, I go Qantas over Canadian or United, because of the service we get from Qantas.

Qantas doesn't do the scenic route, or as we call it the milk run, they do they most direct route. possible.

dont buy from Qantas...other airlines are much cheaper and you get better service....

look into Air New Zealand (though if you are flying from the west coast this may not be an option)...what about British Airways...
