Is anything special happening in Dublin on September 1st?

I'm planning a short break in Dublin at the end of next month, but looking at the online hotel booking sites there are hardly any rooms available on the night of Friday August 31st/Saturday September 1st. Anytime in the week before - plenty of hotels with rooms; that night, I think there were 6 hotels in the whole of Co Dublin with a room free (and not cheap!), so is there something special happening that weekend?

Update:

Just for general information, it was the American Football match at the Aviva which caused the problem - it was Notre Dame vs Army (or Navy, I forget) and apparently 30,000 Americans flew in to watch it!

There is an American Football match that weekend, on the 1st, so that would bring in some international visitors. That might be what is taking some hotel space. There is also an All-Ireland football semi-final in Croke on Sunday the 2nd of September, though that may not necessarily be taking up a lot of hotel space, as many people travel on the day. At this stage it is not even certain who will be playing, so people that will be going won't know it yet. So it is more likely to be the American Football game. September is still a time of year when you do get a lot of visitors and particularly at the weekends, so there will always be a good lot of people in the city. You will still find accommodation. Look at guest houses and bed and breakfasts too. Enjoy your stay.

If you wish to invest your holyday in an alternative place then Dublin is that place, see more with hotelbye . In Dublin you can see several fascinating points and places, the Dublin Zoo and The National Gallery of Ireland are simply two of the most truly effective attractions here. Trinity College can also be a good appeal for almost any tourist. Trinity College is at the heart of the capital and is just a loaded full of amazing history. That university could be the oldest in Ireland and has been created in 1592 by Queen Elizabeth I.
