How can i catch up & make my social skills better?

I am behind others in social skills. What are some ways I could catch up to other people my age that are social? I'm 20, no job...but I am looking, no friends/gf, I go to a cc. I try to talk in my classes and make friends, but can't get past small talk and actually hang out with people. Im way behind others socially, I had a few friends in h, but we never really Hung out too much, I never went to parties or anything either...so many regrets..I hate being a whiny little b*tch. How can I get better at being social without being too uncomfortable?

I've been asking the same things recently, so I'll include some of the best advice I've gotten :D

I have the same problem.. but then something changed and I just realized "Who CARES what other people think?" And for me personally, I find the people who are really talkative much more interesting and confident, and it makes me want to talk to them. And sooo many quiet people are very interesting but they're so shy/unwilling to talk it's like ruined on them. :( You don't have to BE a loud person you can just fake it ;) What helps for me is just saying what IMMEDIATELY comes to my mind. Because before, I would listen to conversations near me and have things I would want to say but keep them in my head. Which is stupid! So now I've learned RIGHT when that thought of how to butt in or join the convo comes in my head to just go out and say it. And don't think too much about it otherwise you'll chicken out! And if you're smart person, which I bet you are, you don't have to worry about the whole "think twice before you speak" thing because as long as you're responses are okay and not rude or anything you'll be fine. But being rude, if it's honest, is alright once in a while too. Trust me, just try being really talkative and saying the first thing that comes to mind with people for a day or two, and say you can always stop if you don't like after that. But you won't want to! It will get you many more friends, possibly boyfriend, and all you'll be doing is talking! Trust me, you're not bothering anyone, and if someone seems busy/unwilling to talk then you can always just stop the conversation! 9 times out of 10 I would say you wouldn't be bothering anyone, people like talking :)

Wow sorry that was so long, by the way I think you may have this in the wrong category, try some other ones so maybe you can get more answers. :)

Good luck! And trust me on this, just go out and be assertive! You can do this! :)

Do you mean prescribed adderall or just some someone is giving you?

It helps me feel a lot more social, it isn't a bad idea to try it out from a doctor. Tell your doctor about how you feel and see what they recommend. Adderall can be highly addictive so you want to take it under a doctor's watch.

The best tip is to be a good listener. Everyone loves a good listener. If you hear something you know about, or have heard of, input a meaningless statement. Don't ramble on and on, and don't interrupt people. try not to disagree with people too much. They don't like that.

    Example:

Person: Ooh, there's a sale at Hollister this weekend!

You: Hmm, I love that store. The skirts there are mad cute!

    What NOT to say:

Person: Ooh, there's a sale at Hollister this weekend!

You: OMG I love that store! They have dresses, and skirts and everything is sooooo MAZING! I totally wish I could buy EVERYTHING! But it's too expensive, and my parents suck b

    An blah blah.

Maybe it has to do with your confidence level. But you could always try learning another language, by learning a new language, it unlocks more vocabulary in your own. But Just relax and keep your cool, I'm sure your a great person
