What are some small instruments?
I'm looking for an instrument small enough to put in my pocket or a lunch box type container to take with me wherever. Chromatic or diatonic under 50 60 dollars

Well there's the mouth harp if you want to get down with your rustic country side, also a harmonica. There are many different kinds of wind instruments that are very small, (look for differnet native american instruments, they produce an interesting sound) There's the chinese erhu (very unique two string instrument) Lastly there's the ocarina which has become a fashion statement as it can be worn around the neck.

A piccolo off of eBay. I got one for 30 bucks. Also you could use slide wistles, harmonicas, Tin wistles (lord of the rings comes to mind there :) ). Hope i helped.

harmonicas are small. off the top of my head I can't think of something else that is that small that can carry a tune by itself
