Careers that involve helping LGBT people?

I have a friend who is looking into the idea of a career that involves working and helping LGBT or strictly transgendered people, she describes it as "looking into a career to help people who are misunderstood" She would like to know titles and descriptions of counselling jobs or other careers that would incorporate this, and the schooling needed to do these jobs. Thank you! :D

She could be a nurse or Dr that services this niche. Ie: transitioning, being the lgbt expert in a clinic, working in a clinic in a heavily lgbt area.

She could look in to working at a gay community center.

She could be a social worker or psychiatrist.

She could be a pastor in a lgbt church. Ie - google metropolitan community church.

She could work in a halfway house.

She could find out what it would take to get a job at an advocacy group like the human rights campaign or lambda legal.

My feeling is that none of the jobs would be very high paying. Until gay people are accepted in the workplace 100 percent, it won't be paid much. It would be better to be maybe a human resources person for everyone but you can help specific groups too.
