I'm getting my first mouse?
My mum has finally let me get a mouse! I am really excited, while our family has a few pets already, I have always wanted a mouse (I think they are adorable!) and my said that when we move into our new house we can get one. xD
So any tips/tricks for a first time mouse owner? I got a bunch of mouse books out from the library, and this weekend we are going to go buy the mouse house. (cage). I have lready brought a small water bottle (one of those ones you hook onto the cage side) and some mouse food. And I've been talking to our pet shop owner about the bedding, shes going to find some for us. (we have a very small pet shop in town, and everything has to be requested then ordered in.)
So, what else should I get before I get my mouse?
And once I have my mouse, what can I do to get it friendly to me?
And should I get just one mouse, or two? I don;t want them to breed tho.
I'm really excited. xD
And I'll probably find some more questions later.

1. You need a hideaway, chew toys and a properly sized wheel, no wire wheels. A solid, plastic wheel.
2. Give them 2-3 days to get used to their cage and environment, then start offering treats, place the treat on the palm of your hand and place your hand in the cage (treat upwards), let them come get the treat, you don't move your hand. Do this for an additional 2-3 days and then slowly start taking the mice out, if they run away try again the next day.
3. 2. Don't get two males, though as they could be territorial. Mice are very social, though, and require to be in pairs. As long as you get 2 females, there wont be breeding involved.
Edit:
About the cage, I wouldn't recommend wire cages as sometimes the bars are too far apart. And the cages that are the proper size, have bars that are too far apart. I'd definitely go with a 20 gallon (long) tank with a wire mesh lid as these are very suitable homes. There's no way the mouse can escape and the 20 gallon is a very nice size for them.
As for the bedding, make sure you aren't getting cedar or pine as these are very bad for small animal's respiratory system!
You also need a food bowl! :P

How wonderful these guys make great pets they are small and require little care water foods bedding and a nice home get a cage a food dish small that hooks to cage so the mouse wont spill its foods,a excise ball to run around the home a locking type so when it hits something it wont pop open and you loose the mouse. Get some chew sticks for the mouse to chew on and keep teeth under control.Get the mouse a hide-de-hole ,or a tube, or a high raised rock, either a plastic tower, or some thing for the tiny mouse to hide with in when its scared or threatened.
For the mouse to be friendly you have to get a tame one and a fuzzy is best for starters this will be a tiny little fellow just getting its fur and with this in mind you will have to feed it and handle the critter each day at several times a day do so in a area so if it gets away from you you can retrieve it don't want it getting harmed or lost with in the home and either gets stepped on or killed by other pets best to feed and watch and allow the mouse get use to you your home and new smells and noise levels in your home and might want to keep it in your room away from alot of people and noise,
As far as I know one will do great by its self and for breeding you will have to be sure the ones if you get 2 are the same and why take the chance.....
Mice are great pets you will be able to handle well if you buy one as a fuzzy an adult may bite unless you know for sure they have been handled before you get it..and for colors that's your choice I had a black one named it Houdini(got his name because he could escape lots of cages).. He was a joy to have, I do miss,, he would get out from his cage but never went far and always came back.
Can use shredded news paper for a bedding place on bottom of cage offer cotton balls to tear up since mice chew all the time so offe rpaper cardboard tp tubescan get feeds at a walmart or a pet store Have fun with your mouse and Love its little life when you repeat your actions the mouse will adapt to them Id tap the cage and houdini would come down from his tower to great me each day looking for a treat id give him daily. There are tubes tunnels at pet smart that are made for rats and mice to climb and you can build a maze for the mouse to run threw........
