How would "Two Ton" Tony Galento do in today's heavyweight division?

He weighed around 235lbs, had a great left hook and could take a punch, people may say he was too short or too fat but he was a similar height and build to heavyweight James Toney.

Today's heavyweight scene is fairly weak, how would he do vs

Chris Arreola.

Tony Thompson.

Samuel Peter.

David Haye.

Wladimir Klitschko.

A squat, fat heavyweight in today's era? He'd fit in pretty well!

He's naturally bigger and stronger than Toney, but he had to be because he doesn't have any of Lights Out's grasp of the science side of things. He could be one of the top contenders, but in amongst the rabble of the many contenders around today.

Arreola's pretty limited, and his second name is the bit around a woman's nipple. And he looks like a blobfish: http://twicsy.com/i/qWp5db

Apart from that I don't think he stands out much. Heavy handed with a good chin but not great stamina. I think Galento gets in close and roughs him up using legal and illegal methods. Close and exciting early but it took a pretty good puncher to put down a fired up version of Tony. Galento UD.

Thompson's better thann average, and it's to his credit that other than an early learning loss he's only been beaten Wlad Klistchko. No shame in that. Now with Tony being a tall southpaw and Galento being a left hook happy fighter I think Tony boxes a UD out of this. The right hand is the better one to sort out a stance clash. Not a good fight, Thompson UD. It's Grrrrrrrrrrrreat! Not really... Could go the other way.

Could be a matter of who ever lands first. Both are tough and heavy handed. Peter is bigger and does have serious stopping power. Tough match up for Galento given how close he'd have to get. Peter KO within 10.

If Haye came in half as good as he did last time out I think he really rags Galento around. Haye KO in the first half of the fight.

Wlad keeps him at range and wins a wide UD. Galento looks like he's going a couple of times but Wlad keeps on sticking the jab out.

Galento is a lot better than people give him credit. IMO among the best fighters that Joe Louis defended his title against and absolutely NOT a member of the 'Bum of the Month' club. In his youth he was the national middleweight, light-heavyweight and heavyweight champion and his resume as a pro is pretty impressive also. Tony also had VERY heavy hands, especially in his left.

Chris Arreola. Chris would have been in the bum of the month club. Nothing impresses me about this guy at all...sorry for the Arreola fans reading this. I think Galento stops Chris - and if he doesn't then Tony doesn't have to worry about tiring and his opponent coming back strong because Arreola never has great stamina also.

Tony Thompson. Galento knocks him out - plain and simple.

Samuel Peter. Both Galento and Peter are somewhat similar. Although Peter is bigger and stronger I think that Galento might be able to edge him in power and strength. Peter has a decent chin but you can get to it. I think its fast paced early but Galento hurts Peter a good few times, lasts the distance and wins a decision.

David Haye. Haye is far too fast and sharp for Tony. Granted if Galento landed he might be in with a chance but he'd have to land late against a tired Haye - and Galento never looked good in the later stages of a fight. I see Haye stopping him on his feet between the 7th - 9th round.

Wlad is superior to Galento plain and simple. He outboxes Tony, cautious of his power, and takes a wide decision win in a Lewis-Tua style fight.

Galento had some serious skills and he was strong and had decent power. In today's heavyweight scene, he'd probably hold one or two pieces of the heavyweight alphabet titles.

Galento is good enough but do you really think he has a chance vs. Wladimir Klitschko?

    I don't think so.

At 5'9" and as you say a rotund 230 + he was a tough sob. However. 6'4"-6'8" heavyweights of today would rule over Galento, IMO. All would beat Galento.

Galento was good enough to put Louis down for a brief count...
