why do people fake having cancer?

Are they telling people they're sick or actually recieving treatment. I don't know how to get this past a doctor but to just tell people, that's looking for attention. Maybe this person doesn't feel loved or cared about in anyway.

Probably to get pity... or attention,... or to impress people with their strength regardless of the terror of the situation.

In middle school, my best friend's ex boyfriend lied and told everyone he was an orphan who had no family but himself and he lived in his own house off of his part-time job. We thought he was cool. In retrospect he's not. So... there you go
