Mac Mall vs. Apple Store for buying a Macbook Pro: which is better?

I'm buying a Macbook Pro computer as a gift for someone, and I want to know what the pros and cons are for buying at a Mac Mall store, which I understand is not directly affiliated with Apple, vs. buying the same Macbook Pro at an Apple Store. Which is the better place to buy the computer, bearing in mind that I'm giving it to someone else and they'll have to deal with any problems the computer develops.

The person I'm getting the computer for is essentially an "applications person," he's familiar with using PC's that run Windows software, he's a very smart person but he's not really expert at computers in general and Apple computers in particular. He has an iPad and loves it, and his background is electrical engineering.

So where should I buy the Macbook Pro?

I would buy it at the Apple store mostly because you can get a lot of information on how to use a mac especially if it's your first time using a mac. They offer a wide variety of plans to get you to truly know how to use a mac like One-to-One, Genius Bar, and other programs they offer. I'm not completely sure about the Mac Mall since I've only been there only a few times in my life.

This is what I honestly recommend. This Luke guy is 100% correct. I'm a mac and it hurts me to say this but if he is an engineer, he definitely needs to consider other computers that are capable of running applications that he requires of.

Identity suggest getting all apple merchandise from the fundamental retailer+on-line. Every person of them could have tech support on the store and online+offline help (this requires the apple care plan which may have to be bought seperately)

If he is an electrical engineer, dear god do not get him a Mac...half of the programs he needs cannot run on macs, please consider researching a bit more about the mac vs. PC situation before doing this to an engineer.
