The zombies that you seem to be referring to originated in George A. Romero's 1968 film, Night of the Living Dead.

There does seem to be some (tenuous) evidence that voodoo zombies did exist - they seemed to have been the result of a chemically induced lobotomy (as opposed to actual magic, which doesn't exist). But they were allegedly used as near-mindless slave labor; they weren't mindless killing machines.

If you mean pop culture zombies (mindless, animated, undead corpses who attack and devour the living) then no: that is simply an impossibility in the real word.

Undead zombies would violate to many scientific laws to exist - the second law of thermodynamics in particular (cuz there ain't no free lunch; you don't get something for nothing - undead zombies walk around with no means to power themselves).

Once the complex processes that drive biological life have been disrupted that's it - dead is dead.

At some point in the future, nanotechnology could perhaps be used to "animate" human cadavers and make them walk around and attack other organisms. That is, a colony of nanobots could be programmed to take over a human corpse, get it up and running and then reproduce and spread themselves by having said corpse come in contact with other living organisms (including humans).

This would be a highly inefficient use of nanoweapons technology though - why not just use an airborne nanobot swarm that sustains and spreads itself by disassembling everything in its path? You could even program it to only attack and "devour" certain people.

Now if you mean the berserk, brain-damaged "infected" from 28 Days Later (2002), well... that might actually be possible. As bioengineering becomes ever more sophisticated the ability to create a designer virus like the one depicted in that film comes ever closer to reality...

"Every dead body that is not exterminated becomes one of them. It gets up and kills! The people it kills get up and kill!" - Dr. Foster, Dawn of the Dead (1978)

"This situation must be controlled before it's too late. They're multiplying too rapidly!" - Dr. Foster, Dawn of the Dead (1978)

"We don't have enough ammunition to shoot them all in the head. The time to have done that would have been in the beginning. No, we let them overrun us; they have overrun us you know. We're in the minority now, something like 400,000 to one by my calculation." - Dr. Logan, Day of the Dead (1985)

    "Ph'nglui mglw'nafh Cthulhu R'lyeh wgah'nagl fhtagn." - H.P. Lovecraft

I do not believe so, but even if they do appear, I think it would probably be a result of some exotic disease that drives people mad and spreads through a bite or broken skin. In fact, now that I think of it, rabies somewhat fits that description, save for the foaming mouth thing. I do not think that zombies in that case would want your brains. They would probably not even want anything to do with you. And, if we're very lucky, most of those zombies may die off in a few weeks as a result of not being able to find suitable water or food.

I remember this. When people were saying 2012's gonna be the end or whatever. Everyone was like ''ZOMBIES ARE COMING ZOMBIES ARE COMING'' .. No. They are not. Even if they could be they would burn to ash. If zombies could happen, they wouldn't come from their grave or anything. I'm sure they couldn't break through a coffin, and get up through all that dirt. So you have nothing to worry about.

/Technically/, they are real, they aren't the type you think though. There IS a parasite that takes over a rats brain and makes it go where a cat hangs out, because it can only breed inside a cats intestines. I forgot what it was called. It's called toxoplasmosa gondii. Rats aren't that much different from humans, that's why we use them to test drugs. If that parasite evolved, then yes, a zombie apocalypse would happen.

Or neurotoxins. Or neurogenesis. Lots of things can make it happen.

Yes, but not in the stupid hollywood sense. They do not feed on humans, they are just drugged and brain dead or victims of parasitosis or all of the above; and NO, they can't turn you into zombies. It's more common in countries with a lot of impoverished people.

No zombies are not real. Its impossible. If they were real, and since they are dead, they would discinegrate because of the sun. Bcuz the organs are exposed to the sunloght. And thats y we have skin.

No it's impossible for that to happen, don't worry hahahaha.

The dead CAN'T come back alive after being buried for years, I think your friend watches TOO much tv or plays too many games.
