Where does individual achievement fit into Obama's vision of America?

I used to own a small business and its true, I couldn't have had any small success without the people who worked for me and the people who taught me the trade. I didn't exist alone, I had to have suppliers and products to sell and use that were well made.

And yes, reliable shipping too.

And in the beginning, my parents invested in me, I really couldn't have begun without that.

So did I stand alone? Some brave independent woman with a torch? Nothing so dramatic. I worked, I earned and I never thought it was out of some wonderfulness of my own.

We did well for a few years and then got caught in a recession during the Nixon years.

Stuff happens.

justa--- I don't think that's what he meant. You're parents sure did help you, not only financially, but by instilling in you a sense of values. You did the rest with your initiative, desire to achieve, and motivation. Don't put yourself down for that. Be proud of your accomplishments.

It doesn't. Everything is shared, community, communism, everyone is a gray number who gives all, takes what they're given and is thankful for it, and keeps their mouth shut whether in the presence of their bettors or not.
