How many corrupt cops are there? And why is nothing hardly ever done about them?
I was curious to know, how many people out here know a corrupt cop in the town you live in? If so, what things do you know of that they got away with that the normal citizen wouldn't? Example: Indianapolis police officer kills motorcyclist in DUI accident while on duty, while fellow police officers help to cover up and botch the investigation!
Jacob, cops are not the law, they are only the enforcers of the law!

All cops that have been cops for a year or more are corrupt; the ones who would've been decent have mostly dropped out by then.
They get away w\ just about anything they do unless they stomp on the toes of someone who is very wealthy, extremely well connected or pull some type of crap that causes a major public outcry.
Even in the cases outlined above, generally all they will receive is a paid vacation; they are not only well aware that that they can run rampant, but it is what they thrive on & get off on.
Nothing is done because they police themselves; do you really think one of these things is going to rat out something that might be the 1st to arrive when it calls for back up?

power corrupts, and absolute power corrupts absolutely. Lord Acton.
Cops are often not prosecuted because prosecutors wont try them. Prosecutors wont try them for political reasons and often because Juries will let cops walk anyway. People are often too trusting of cops and give them too much of a benefit of doubt.
The sad thing is, incidents like this more common than people realize or want to believe. Many of these cops are repeat offenders even if they were expelled from their initial force, some other city hires them.
The best you can do is not to trust the cops and to learn your rights to protect yourself from these thugs. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6wXkI4t7nuc here is a law professor giving you the basics
