Best brands are Cobra, then Motorola. Avoid Midland as they are a RadioShack sub-brand.
You are going to need one labled PMR446 for the EU, as the US-style FRS are illegal in Europe.
For car trips i would look for something with both rechargable and normal battery usability; headset/handsfree/voice-activated function; large channel selection (14+) and privacy codes to avoid interference.
In your price range, try the Cobra MT-800-2VP
But if you want simple to use, cheap, and will be staying in sight of the other car for the most part, go with the Motorola P14MAA03A1AX TLKR T4 Walkies.
