Probably came from a person hitting his/her 'Funny' bone, THEN crying from pain and laughing from the strange feeling.

The name is a pun based on the latin name for the bone the "humerus" (ME from Latin humerus, umerus upper arm, shoulder; Gothic ams shoulder, Greek ōmos) which sounds like "humorous". It is also possibly because of the sensations you feel in your arm when you strike the bone trapping the ulnar nerve.

Quoting wikipedia here:
"This name is thought to be a pun, based on the sound resemblance between the name of the bone of the upper arm, the "humerus" and the word "humorous""
