    Because the funny bone is actually called the 'humerus'.....which sounds like 'humorous'

    Probably came from a person hitting his/her 'Funny' bone, THEN crying from pain and laughing from the strange feeling.

    I've done it myself. NOT really funny at all.

    Try it again, see if you can laugh and cry at the same time.

    The name is a pun based on the latin name for the bone the "humerus" (ME from Latin humerus, umerus upper arm, shoulder; Gothic ams shoulder, Greek ōmos) which sounds like "humorous". It is also possibly because of the sensations you feel in your arm when you strike the bone trapping the ulnar nerve.

    watch someone when thwy hear something really funny... they will hold their ribs or their arm and their face expression wrinkles up... almost identical reaction when you hit your funny bobe... except the person experiences pain instead of laughter. joy and pain are very similar in the way they relate to brain functio n

    Well it's official name is the ulnar nerve, so it's technically not call a 'funny bone'
