Why is Kobe considered an "elite" defender if Manu Ginobili blows by him time and time again?

I never considered Kobe an elite defender, EVER. I do think he was the most overrated defender in NBA history. This is the same Kobe that refuses to take charges.The number of all defense teams the NBA put Kobe on is an insult to the award and proof why Kobe is overrated. He never deserved those but because he's the closest thing to Jordan and Jordan had a lot of defense awards then Kobe's gotta have them too. But Jordan deserved his (200 steals 100 blocks in multiple seasons) while Kobe made 1st team all defense with 99 steals and 12 blocks. ONLY 12 FREAKIN BLOCKS, and he played all 82 games that year!!! 33 times in NBA history a player had 12 or more blocks IN ONE GAME! Even Jordan's worst blocks in a season was still more (13) and he played only 17 games that year. A 40 year old Jordan had 39 blocks in his last season.

If you take two people who are the same speed and make one run laterally while one runs in a straight line, who do you think will win? That's why Manu is able to blow by Kobe. Also factor in all the knee therapy Kobe has had over the years, and its obvious why a 34 year old man is unable to move, defend, or react as quickly as when he was, say, 24.

For my part, its kobe. Workforce-smart, its manu. If manu performed for the lakers, he'll play as a factor safeguard when needed and make bynum and odom constant 20pt players. If kobe played with the spurs, he'll yap about the constrained touches he'll be getting and cause the chemistry to fizzle.
