Stealing a lottery ticket?

So here's the thing. My room mate goes over to her friends apartment on the floor below us once a week to hang out. She and her friend have this weird thing were they will both purchase 3 to five scratch tickets and scratch them off together at her friend's place when they hang out wednesday nights.

She had three of the same scratch tickets attached by magnet to our refridgerator. She is out of town until tomarrow night.

We always play little pranks on each other for fun and her last one on me went a little too far, so I decided to play a slightly mean one on her. (Remember, she's out of town.)

I scratched off her scratch tickets, with the intention of just kind of hanging them back on the fridge. Well, you can imagine my suprise when one of them turned out to be worth $10,000 dollars.

Here's what I'm considering: She NEVER signs or dates the back of her tickets, and I know she buys them at the same corner store every time. So suppose I just go to that store and purchase three of the exact same scratchers, and hang them back on the fridge exactly as they would have been.

Then I go down to the lottery office first thing tomarrow and cash out the winning ticket, as if I was the one who purchased it.

And she'd never be the wiser.

Lol is there any way I could be caught? What kind of questions would the lottery office ask me, if anything?

Dont steal, its bad, and if your "Friends" with er, maybe she'll share, besides, they might track it down and find out WHICH credit card bought it.

Pdq is correct on the cash. They all have serial numbers on the back of them. They recognize what outlets got what tickets, in case you steal a entire roll of them then they recognize which of them are lacking. It is no longer like when you money in even a $1 ticket they simply appear at it and provide you with $1 they scan it on the lottery desktop and it says if its a winner or not. I think it could also alert them its a stolen ticket.

I really hope you reconsider doing what you plan. That would be stealing...and stealing from a friend to boot! That would be grand larceny if you were somehow found out. ( And that's what usually happens! )

You would likely never be able to live with yourself for doing this, AND there's a Commandment that says..."Thou shall not steal"! I pray that you make the right decision and allow this friend to enjoy their good fortune.
