Is Botswana safer than South Africa?

I'm thinking of travelling to southern Africa sometime in the next twelve months. I'd love to go to South Africa, but I keep reading about how unsafe it is - random violence, car-jacking, murder rates off the charts, etc. Is Botswana any safer for tourists?

The media reports on violent crime in SA is to a degree similar to reports about New York as read by those outside the area, you would think every person was out to get you, this is obviously not true in either case, certainly there are areas you should be wary of but the whole country isn't like that. Botswana is generally safer than SA however it's also more expensive for tourists, Botswana has a policy of low volume high revenue from it's visitors. Depending on what you want to see and do in Southern Africa I would recommend Namibia especially if it's your first vist to the continent, Namibia is a beautiful country, has some truly amazing scenery and good wildlife, it is easy to travel around and is safe.

Don't let the reports on SA put you off generally SA is safe, just keep your wits about you and don't go into certain areas at night or alone.

have confidence me, I even have visited for the 14th time this February. The crime fee is appalling. I holiday a pedal cycle around a circuit of roughly 8 miles from my relatives individuals. i do no longer carry any money with me when I achieve this. If I have been to get into hardship, they might have the bike ! i do no longer positioned on my watch etc. you're talking some total diverse ball interest. you have your homestead on your lower back or maybe with any previous adventure, you won't be able to argue with a hand gun or rifle, if one is pointed at you, there is each and every possibility it is going to likely be used. There are different worldwide places interior the South of Africa that are a excellent deal safer, in actuality all of them different than Zimbabwe.

    Hello there. :)

Well, I'm not actually sure, but it doubt it's safer. Other African countries you could probably go to are Kenya (Nairobi) or Tanzania (mount. Kilimanjaro).
