Getting braces in a month...?

I am finally getting braces and I am scared. Does getting them on and tightened hurt? If so, what can I do to prevent pain? What are some main foods that I can eat with braces?

It's easier to say what you can't eat, because you can pretty much eat the same things as you do now, with some exceptions:

    Gummy Candy

    Sticky Candy

    Gum

    Popcorn

    Corn on the cob

    Apple on the core

It hurts a bit when you get them tightened, but not much at all. An advil and avoiding hard food helps with the soreness. It only hurts for one day, two tops. Don't be scared! I had them for 4 years (that's a really long time for braces), and at the end of the process, my smile is perfect :D . It was so worth it.

Sorry to say but i have braces now and for me, oral pain is the worst pain! My braces hurt like CRAZY when i first got them on in July of 2011. Tightening your braces (mine are tightened monthly) isnt that bad. It will leave your mouth a little bit sore but not as badly as first getting them on. I couldnt eat for a couple days after! All you can really do is take some pain reliever like Advil. You can eat basically anything. Just stay away from sticky or hard food, popcorn, and gum (my orthodontist said i can chew gum but i has to be sugar free! your orthodontist might say something different) Your orthodontist will probably go over the food you can eat and how to reduce pain after they put your braces on! Hope this helped!

    Hi!

I have braces and it doesn't hurt getting them on- it just feels very weird having so much metal in your mouth. It does hurt a little getting them tightened but not like 'ouch pain' more like annoying pain. Like you just want to get them off. Honestly i think people make them sound worse than they actually are. When you first get them tightened eat ice cream, yogurt, canned vegetables, soup, anything that you dont really have to chew. lol. After that you will be fine. Also they tell u that u can chew gum and stuff when you most definitely can! they make it sound terrible but it isnt that bad! drink milk to strengthen teeth(: hope i helped! good luck xx
