Bleach or Blonde dye for Ombre hair?

I *dont* want to do this to my natural hair, so I will be doing it on clip in extensions which I will purchase in the next few days. The colour Im buying is #6 (Medium Brown) so my natural hair colour is around there, maybe a tiny bit lighter, possibly a tad darker.

I've watched a million and one youtube tutorials, and most of them say to use a powder bleach to colour the ends, along with a developer.

Can I just use blonde hair dye from the supermarket to do this? I know how to gradient it and all, but I want to know if dye is as effective as straight out bleach.

Leave in time doesnt bother me, I'm generally pretty patient.

No guesses please, I need a super accurate answer so I dont mess this project up,

Thanks so much guys. :)

bleach usually works the best, especially if the extensions are brown. I think you should seriously use bleach for the best results.
