Correct. The USA has placed 1st in medal counts since 1996.
1996 101 Medals (44 Gold, 32 Silver, 25 Bronze)
2000 94 Medals (37 Gold, 24 Silver, 33 Bronze)
2004 102 Medals (36 Gold, 39 Silver, 27 Bronze)
2008 110 Medals (51 Gold, 21 Silver, 26 Bronze)
(2012 Currently tied with China with 12)
The USA continues to excel in Team Sports (Soccer, Basketball, Volleyball) , Swimming and Gymnastics.
