Appropriate words of sympathy for coworker with (probably) fatally ill mother?

Question

I hoping some assistance writing a sympathy note for a co-worker, who works in another office but whom frequently I work with via phone and email. Her mother has just been diagnosed with what is almost certainly a fatal illness. I have never met the mother, but know that my co-worker is devastated by the news.

Unfortunately all the sites I have found with sympathy note advice have guidance for someone who has either lost close relative, or is themselves suffering from from an illness. The only guidance I've found regarding the illness of a relative suggests mentioning personal thoughts or memories of the ill person, but I do not even know her mother's name.

I am not skilled at writing personal notes, so any assistance will be appreciated.

Did this worker inform you himself? If not then you must begin by writing ' I was informed of your mother's illness by_____'. Then continue on with the words' I wish I could do something to help. Please let me know if there is anything. I am so very sorry' 
Keep it short as  you evidently will be writing another card when she dies.

I know that you are stress out cause of your sweet mother illness, but rest assure all your friends and excluding myself is praying for her and I will always be here if you need some one to talk to or use my shoulder to cry on

If the woman is still alive, you need to show concern for her and for the co-worker. It is not time for sympathy. Ask if there is anything you can do to help.

7abebty, Alby w Rou7e we can't describe our mothers in only three words, we can wirte a book and we won't finish the describing of our mothers. We never can't give the love, the care etc. to our mothers back.

The best thing to do is stick to simple hall mark quotes like god bless or best wishes that kinda stuff you dont to get to involved.
