Can icelandic ponies do troting poles?
My friends away for a few days, out of phone contact. I'm looking after her Icelandic pony, which doesn't bother me at all (I've known it for years, Its a sweet pony.) She wants me to exercise it on the lunge, and I have done that a few times now, and I want to try on the lunge exercises on it that I do on my own pony. One of them includes a circle of trotting poles, which I'd definately do on her except I'm not exactly sure wheather or not an icelandic pony does trotting poles! Since they don't trot and all. xD.
So is it possible for an icelandic pony to tolt over trottng poles?
And if so, what sort of striding would they have anyway?

Maybe he can't do trotting poles, but he could do tolting poles!
Since there's a chance he's never done them before, start out with just a single pole for him to go over.

Can an Icelandic Horse bring a tremendous guy? Maybe. Maybe now not. It relies. There are a couple of approaches to make use of to calculate how a lot weight a horse can bring. One is simplistic: A difficult consultant to how a lot weight a horse can bring is to take the pony's weight (in lbs) divide by way of six --this equals the whole weight the pony can bring, adding tack. Or the 20% Rule: one thousand lb horse can bring two hundred kilos. Another formulation is situated on measuring the bone: When persons talk of a horse's "bone", they're relating to a size taken on the circumference of the foreleg, slightly below the knee. Horses have very narrow legs, and a high-quality deal of weight and mass to bring, so the excellent in their help constructions could be very primary. The foreleg circumference size can support investigate the pony's capability to bring weight. A gentle-boned or subtle horse shall be restricted in weight wearing capability. A consistent-sized horse with "well bone" can degree 21.75cm (eight a million/two inches) or extra. The highest weight a horse can bring effectively varies in keeping with the breed of the pony and its utilization. There isn't any absolute rule approximately how a lot weight a horse can bring, however most often talking the lighter-framed the pony the fewer he can bring. Native ponies are very robust or even one of the crucial contributors within the small breeds are ready of wearing adults quite simply. It is way less difficult for a horse to bring a have compatibility, good-balanced rider, than an not worthy, obese unbalanced rider, even though they each weigh the identical. Quality of bone is anything else, and extra variable. Some horses that experience had deficient nutrients, over-fed, or over-pressured at a tender age will have deficient excellent bone; on this case, even a well outside size could also be erroneous in regard to weight wearing capability. Some of the smaller breeds are recognized for the excellent in their bones: Arabians, for example. So "bone" and "excellent" don't seem to be such sensible standards or effortless to degree!

Well Icelandic ponies have a strange kind of gait for a trot so you might need to figure out how far to space the poles so he doesnt trip. Their gaits are a little faster so I would try putting them a little closer together than normal. But the should be able to do it.

Since it's not your horse, I wouldn't do anything new like that without talking to the owner. I'm sure the horse can do it, but what if by chance it spooked or got hurt. I'd wait til the owner was present.
