evidence for dark matter and dark energy?
Basically, what is the observational evidence for dark matter AND for dark energy?
side note: ok.... so based on the first answer i received here, I have to ask some uh yall to please leave your religious garbage out of this. i'm asking for help on my homework, not a sermon. thanks!

Dark matter is the intelligent way to say "We don't know". Our calculations don't work with the available information we have, so there must be something else that we know nothing about.
You will find numerous descriptions of what it is and what it might be, but this one is fairly easy to understand: http://science.nasa.gov/astrophysics/focus-areas/w...
Rather than ask this question here, it would have been easier just to google it.

Dark energy is a hypothetical explanation for the accelerating expansion of the universe. There is no corroborating evidence, nor generally accepted theory of what it actually is.
Similarly, dark matter was hypothesized to explain observed motions of spiral galaxies and galaxy clusters, which behave as though they contain far more matter than can be accounted for by the observable stars, gas, and dust. In a couple of instances, though, astronomers think they may have observed gravitational lensing due to huge dark matter structures. Some physicists think there may be "weakly interacting massive particles" (WIMPs) that constitute this cosmic dark matter, but again there is no solid theory of what they actually are.

Seriously, you thought that was a religious sermon? Apparently we were not reading the same response. The first answer was given to you with background supporting what was written, no where did I see a reply pushing religion or maybe you are not intelligent enough to understand what was written or didn't take the time to actually read it which is probable, you likely scanned it seeing only enough to make your incorrect conclusion. Maybe you should consider doing your own research for your homework instead of taking the lazy way out by posting your homework questions here hoping someone will "do" your homework for you. Get real, you are on a sight which is based on, what, 75% opinion and the other 25% is is questionable as truth? If you want strictly facts go to more reputable sources or do the work and research and come to your own conclusion. You should be grateful anyone took their time to do your homework for you, especially as thoroughly as some did.

After over a decade, the dark matter detector in Minnesota has detected two WIMP particles. Whether or not WIMP's account for all the effects of dark matter that has been observed has yet to be seen. Unfortunately, people tend to attribute mystical properties to dark matter when there's no need to do so, there is nothing special about dark matter, it's simply something that provides for the gravitational effects that we see which we can't attribute to visible matter that we have observed. Why would not being able to see something yet, suddenly make it a religion?

DARK MATTER - the motions and shapes of certain galaxies can't be explained without the presence of dark matter
DARK ENERGY - the accelerating expansion rate of the universe is attributed to some unknown force

Basically, dark matter/energy cannot be seen -- scientists can only estimate where it is based on gravitational effects on what they can see. It leaves an after effect which they can observe and they believe in makes up at least 76% of the universe?
For the last 30 years of Albert Einstein's life, he was trying to find this particle...
Known as Dark Matter/Energy and nicknamed as the 'God Particle', it has finally been proven.
If you break everything down in this universe you are left with small building blocks known as atoms (with neutrons and protons in the nucleus and electrons in orbits) which create all objects living or static here in this world. Those electrons can actually even appear randomly in multiple places at the same time. What holds, mounds and shapes this structure all together and keeps the gravity in place?
The big bang theory was originally modeled by a Christian, before a university created into what we now know it as.
He based his work off Albert Eistein's theory of relative. Who in turned said he added a static variable because he didnt believe it was correct which he later considered the biggest mistake in his life. Eistein later himself even said to his class why it's more logical to believe in a creator of the universe. While he wasn't religious, he considered Atheists as blindsided.
Atheism is now left with a faith they believing in, created by the very people that they mock and an intelligent person that even said they where possibly wrong and illogical to rule it out. The Big Bang Theory has a logical holes in it, which Atheists fulled up and proved by believing in something also invisible known as Dark Matter.
Dark Matter makes up 90% of the human brain. The average human body gets hit by a particle of Dark Energy about once a minute and Dark Matter is all around us in this universe.
Do you believe in something invisible which can not be seen but only the effect of what it leaves behind? Wow, that sounds a lot like a religion I know! Even non-believers now want to play God with it....
Black holes are heavy dense objects containing Dark Matter, which can't be seen via the naked eye. Because no light can get out, people can't see black holes. It's a region of space having a gravitational field so intense that no matter or radiation can escape, and get's sucked into it disappearing like magic. The largest black hole detected called "supermassive", has mass that are more than 1 million suns together! They consider them the mystery of how the universe was formed.
Albert Einstein said: "Everyone who is seriously interested in the pursuit of science becomes convinced that a spirit is manifest in the laws of the universe - a spirit vastly superior to man, and one in the face of which our modest powers must feel humble."
If you believe in Dark Matter, then it is bias to rule out a Creator as it's based on the same concept?

Based on your additional details, I have to ask you to post to Cretins'R'Us. They can give better answers to idiots like you.
