Can I join the Army if I only have a GED?
I have been home schooled all my life so I will be getting a GED not a high school diploma. So does the army except those with a GED? I heard that the Marines did not except those with a GED.

maybe. the Army takes only a few each month.. as little as one or 2.. nationwide. and you must score at least a 50 on the ASVAB and not require any waivers.
it will be faster to take one semester..in person.. at your local community college and get 15 100 level credits.
and it is ACCEPT.. not except.

For Education, the military has 3 "tiers': Tier 1 is high school graduate from traditional high school or GED with 15 semester hours of college or college degree. There are no limits on Tier 1 candidates.
Tier 2 is GED or other non-traditional high school equivalence (including home school and distance learning. Every fiscal year the services set what percent of Tier 2 recruits they'll allow. Sometimes it's 0%. Right now it's 0 or close to zero for all services. 0% for Coast Guard, Air Force and Marines. Close enough to zero for Navy or Army.
Tier 3 is not a high school graduate and none of those have been accepted for years.

that depends on the branch you wanna go into and what time you join....certain times of the year the military accepts GED's and sometimes they dont....it depends on how bad they need more troops for various things. i joined the Army National Guard in '09 with just a GED but at that time they were just about to stop taking GED's for a little while....the best thing you can do is talk to a recruiter and ask him....hope this helps

Each branch has limits on how many recruits with GEDs they'll take because people with GEDs tend not to complete their entire first term. To secure a better opportunity, you'll need to do very well on your ASVAB.
