How to get a job as a busser?
Hi, A couple weeks ago me and my dad were at this restaurant that we go to every Sunday and I mentionjed That I wanted a way to get money so I could by the stuff I wanted and he mentioned me to bus tables. It sounds interesting mainly because it is a way to earn money and only 14. I don't really know how to approach the boss about it and I am kind of shy but I understand that if I want to get a job I have to be outgoing and willing. I don't really know how I would approach the boss about this, can anyone help? My parents are divorced and my mom lives a good 30 minutes away from the place. Could I just work the weekends or would it be better just to take a bus up there during the week from my moms to get there? If anyone can help that will be great :)

Well, I got a job at a local hotel when I was 14 and have been working there ever since, so I know it isn't impossible to get a job at your age. All I did was dress nicely when I went to apply, applied there, and submitted my application and my resume. However, what helped me the most, I believe, was making myself sound qualified for the job for which I was applying (which is a housekeeper). I know that as a housekeeper, you had to have experience with cleaning, so I put down that I did some type of cleaning in my job experience working concession stands, volunteering at a resource center, and cleaning houses. So make yourself sound qualified to be a busser. Maybe you have worked at a soup supper for a youth group and you bussed there? If so put it down as experience. You know, just some things along those lines.
Now, as for when you should work. I happen to work just weekends now and it fits quite nicely with my weekly schedule. So yes you could work something out with your boss to work just weekends. Just think, you would have to use your paycheck to pay for a bus to work, and then you would barely have any to spend or save! So if I were you, I would just work weekends, and that's probably the most you could hope for at your age. Of course, if you can even get a job at 14 depends on what state you live in and what its child labor laws are. I live in Nebraska, where 14 and 15 year olds can work with a work permit. So check your state's child labor laws and go from there.
I'm glad you are trying to get a job at your age! Kudos to you, and good luck on your job search! Hope I helped!
