1. A underrated fighter. People see Galento and see a fat guy with a loud mouth, kind of like a clown, side-show act. But it is very far from the truth. He beat a handful of great fighters in his era, was only ever knocked down/out by the great Joe Louis and in his youth was the national amateur middleweight, light-heavyweight and heavyweight champion.
2. I think in ANY era a dedicated Galento could have been a real threat. He had KO power and a granite jaw. He also had some decent fundamentals - you don't get to the top with just power and toughness. I think a trim Galento at around maybe 210-220lbs would have been a dangerous contender.
3. 15 rounds in a relatively easy win for Tony. Over 20 or more I'd say the longer-lasting Willard may drag Tony on late, wear the smaller man down with his size and stamina and stop him. Howeve in 15 we see Tony taking it early with his strength and pressure, as he slows Willard comes back but not enough to hurt or stop Galento. A point win for the handsome pugilist, Tony Galento.

there was no science about galento, but he was real tough. he fought out of a crouch similar to archie moore and tried to use an opponents height against them. he was a dirty so & so too.
during the '80 when most of the titleholders were overweight and undertrained at one time or another, he would have had a chance against a few of them. he would probably have beaten ruiz, byrd and a few other titleholders of recent times.
as for galento vs willard, both were inconsistant, so i can envision this going either way, but i'd lean toward willard.

didn't he fight in one of the weakest eras to begin with?
