Can't Sleep!! Afraid of death and murderers...?
I'm 15 and this has been going on for about 2 weeks. Everytime i lay down to sleep I start thinking about death and intrusions and murderers...I'm sooo afraid that I usually don't fall asleep until 3:00. Usually after crying. I know posssibility of that happening is really slim but I can't help it. I also have trouble breathing. I went to the doctor's about breathing but they said that I was fine. This has been starting especially because of the colorado shooting i realized that u could die anytime... It's driving me insane! I pray to God but that doesn't seem to be helping. Is this just a phase? Please help!!

If you have a pet, I bring them into your room and sleep with them. Just having another living thing with you is really comforting.
Relax before bed by taking a bath and maybe drinking some tea.
Read until you're exhausted. Just don't read anything scary or super action packed or it'll make it even harder to sleep! My personal favorites are my drivers permit manual, The Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy, The Fault in our Stars by John Green, and my Bible.
Also, keep praying. Say your prayers aloud and meditate over some Bible verses. I like 2 Timothy 1:7, 1 John 4:18, Psalm 91:1-2, Hebrews 13: 6 and 8, Psalm 56:11, and Psalm 4:8.
Good luck and I'll be praying for you!

It might be a phase, but if I were you I would right before bed drink some warm milk, or even have a benedril, something to make you sleepy. If this continues for more than a month I would defiantly seek counsiling. Sleeping is something our body needs and without it, we loose energy in everything we do. But don't worry too much, I'm sure you'll be fine. Know that yes there are many murders out there, but as long as your doors/windows are locked and someone else is home with you, just think of the chances? Eat/drink something to calm your nerves, lock all your windows/doors, pray to god, and know you are protected by your house, family, and most of all god. Hope this helps :)

Learning about tragedy through the Media causes great anxiety for some people. What I suggest you should try is during the day stop watching the news on television or listening to it on the radio, and also take a vacation from serious news even from the internet.
This has worked for some people.
The doctors you saw are not equipped to deal with your very real problem, and you should try to find other doctors who can help you, or just anyone you can trust to talk to would probabl;y be just as much help or even better.
Trying to face this problem alone is not getting anywhere.

Praying to God isn't helping probably because he doesn't exist.
if you have an iPod or something, put it on the lowest brightness setting (as long as you can still see it), and play on it (at least 1ft/30.5cm away from your face). You will not think about it and when you get really tired you will stop playing on it and fall asleep in minutes. Or, you can watch TV. Turn it off or mute it when you get really tired. Make sure all other lights are off. (Except alarm clock, I guess.)
This will keep your mind of it and help you get too tired to stay awake. Do NOT try to stay awake just to watch TV or play the game when you get too tired to do so.
Whenever you think about that stuff keep you eyes closed, have your covers over you (unless that makes you feel hot) and lay on your side, face turned right if you are right-handed and left if you are left-handed. (By whichever hand you write with.)
This will help keep your mind off of it. (It might help to think of something else that isn't too important when doing this.)
Another thing that could help you fall asleep when going to bed would be to masturbate.

make sure all your doors and windows are locked and the alarm system is set. if someone tries to break in, you'll hear them and have enough time to find a good hiding place. as for out in the public, you really don't have to worry about being shot. If there is a shooting, the person shooting most likely only has one gun which is only about 5 bullets. just pay attention to your surroundings and if anything suspicious starts happening, go into a public restroom and hide in the stalls. if you're too far away, just lay on the ground.
