how do you make banana chips at home?

Can you make them in the microwave? I don't have a dehydrator thing, just an oven and a microwave. Will they taste like the banana chips you get in fruit and fibre cereal?

How to make DRIED banana chips in the MICROWAVE.

1-Peel the bananas. Slice each banana in 1/2cm - 1cm slices.

3-Microwave on the defrost mode for 10 to 15 minutes, or until slightly sticky to touch.

4-Remove from the microwave. Transfer the slices to a wire cake rack.

    5-Allow to stand overnight.

How to Make Banana Chips in the Oven

    nstructions

1-Select the ripest bananas you can find that are still free from bruises and soft spots.

2-Preheat the oven to 150 degrees.

3-Peel the bananas and cut them into thin slices. Some recipes for banana chips recommend leaving some of the skin on the banana slices. If you wish to make them this way, cut off the ends of the bananas and then remove the outer portion of the skin using a vegetable peeler.

4-Dip the banana slices in lemon juice to prevent them from turning brown while they are drying.

5-Spread the bananas in a single layer on a greased cookie sheet.

6-Bake the bananas for one to two hours, until dry. While hot, the bananas will still be somewhat flexible. However, they will harden fully as they cool.

7-Once the bananas have cooled fully, carefully remove them from the cookie sheet.

8-Store dried bananas in an airtight container.

    Tips & Warnings

If desired, season the bananas to taste before (or after) baking. Recommended spices include salt, chili powder, and coriander powder.

For a sweeter treat, try drizzling the banana slices with honey and then sprinkling them with coconut before baking.

The same instructions may also be used for making plantain chips.

Hope this will help you! Good luck!

The microwave will just cook them. You want to dehydrate them so a low heat oven is probably your best bet. After slicing them you'll want to soak them briefly (30 seconds) in some diluted lemon juice or a citric acid (Fruit Fresh) solution. This will keep the cut edges from turning brown and icky looking. Placing them on a silicone baking mat on top of your cookie sheet will also help prevent them from baking onto the pan.

Don't know if the link below will help or not but it's a starting place.

slice the bananas up, dip in either lemon juice or lime juice, lay on wax paper covered cookie sheet and put in regular oven at 175 to 200F and let dry. It will take about 2 to 4 hours depending on how thick you slice the bananas.

lemon or lime juice is necessary to prevent browning of the outside of the banana chips as they sit and dry.

commercial drying of fruits like bananas uses a chemical preparation to prevent the browning or oxidation of the fruit, but they will taste very similar no matter if you use juice or chemical anti browning preparation.

No, you can't make them in the microwave, but, if your oven can maintain a temp of 150*F, you can dry them in the oven. Most ovens don't go below 170.
