There is a toll road on the Sacramento River near where I live that charges $5 to cross. If I could find?

enough financial backers would it be possible to build a bridge right next to it and charge less? Isn't competition good for the economy?

Update:

I meant toll bridge not toll road.

Skip the financial backers and just build it on the cheap. You weren't planning to do this for the rest of your life, were you? Make sure to use lots of toxic paint and material so that if the guvmint threatens to tear it down they'll have to go through their own bureaucracy and file all sorts of impact statements first. Open without an inspection and by the time anyone has any legal authority to shut it you should be already in the black.

Do like they do in my state and put up a sign announcing that State liability is limited and you use at your own risk.

Don't jump in at the deep end and you need to cross your bridges as you come to them, or your bridging loan could sink you

  • Build one that reaches the nearest state line, charge triple.
